Ten years ago, as a chair of the Publications Committee, I learned that my suggestion for a new clinical journal was not novel and indeed had been suggested by many members. The concern that the journal would become “Fertility and Sterility Lite” and be home only to “second choice” articles slowed the initiation of the journal. However, this did force us to realize that only through the choice of the perfect editor would a new journal have an independent personality. Over the past 10 years, the executive publications committee carefully worked through a plan and design for this journal. After interviewing many fine candidates, it has become clear that Drs. Machelle Seibel and Paula Amato possess the necessary qualifications to become the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor.
Dr. Seibel, a graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch, performed his residency at Emory University and his fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist who has published more than 200 articles and written or edited 10 books. His creative mind and innovative ideas promise to deliver a new and different journal.
Complementary to these skills is the research background of Dr. Paula Amato, a reproductive endocrinologist who earned her M.D. from the University of Toronto, did her REI Fellowship with Dr. Samuel Yen at UCSD, and subsequently completed an AAOGF Fellowship. Her expertise in translational research promises to introduce the practical aspects of state-of-the-art investigation.
I would also like to thank our sponsors—Serono Reproductive Health; Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals—for their support of this new publication and continued support of the ASRM.
It is my pleasure to finally introduce our editorial leaders—the parents of our long-awaited SRM.
Sandra A. Carson, M.D. President, The American Society for Reproductive Medicine
